We're delighted to share the news that Ar Gefn Y Ddraig (Riding The Dragon) was joint winner of the People's Choice award at Kendal Mountain Festival 2018.
'Conquering the Dragon' released
The 2017 film focuses on the highs and lows of five participants as they set out to conquer The Dragon. Each of them has a unique and emotional story to tell of their battle against the enormous physical and mental challenges of the race. We also see the wider race unfolding around them and the stunning Welsh landscapes they travel through. Will they all make it?
World film premiere - 2017 Dragon's Back Race
In just two weeks this evening, we will be taking our seats at the World Film Première of the 2017 Berghaus Dragon's Back Race film.
Compèred by Mary-Ann Ochota, who presented the live coverage of the event itself, the première will be followed by a Q&A with 2017 dragons Huw Jack Brassington & Sabrina Verjee, and returning dragons Steve Birkinshaw & Helene Whitaker.
Race Director's Report - 2017 Berghaus Dragon's Back Race
There is no doubt that the Berghaus Dragon’s Back Race™ is legendary and global. With this fourth edition of the race just gone, it has firmly established itself on the top table of world-class mountain running events, and it is also clearly one of the hardest to complete!
Marcus Scotney and Carol Morgan secure wins in the 2017 Dragon's Back Race
Marcus Scotney put aside injury concerns to lead from the front on the final day and win the 2017 Berghaus Dragon’s Back Race, ahead of defending champion Jim Mann. In the women’s race, Ireland’s Carol Morgan caught and passed overnight leader Sabrina Verjee to claim the title. It was another hot day of competition in the Welsh mountains and at the end of 315km and 15,500m of climbing, 127 of Monday’s 223 starters completed the full race.
Day 5 - Prize giving
The prize giving for the 2017 Berghaus Dragon’s Back Race took place at the race finish in Llandeilo tonight, starting with the famous Dragon trophies being carried into the room to great applause, and some expectation for those waiting to collect theirs.
Spreading the Dragon's Back Race legend worldwide
There are many international competitors at the Berghaus Dragon’s Back Race this year. The event has quickly established a global reputation for itself and as this year’s competitors return home they will surely inspire others to come in the future. I’ve been asking a few about their experiences in Wales over the last 5 days.
Day 5 - Carol Morgan of Ireland first female at Dragon's Back Race
After a tense final day with the 3 leading female runners all minutes apart it was Carol Morgan of Ireland who crossed the finish line in Llandeilo first this afternoon.
Day 5 - A new dragon slayer
Throughout the 5 days of The Berghaus Dragon’s Back the walls of the racer’s meal tent have been covered in huge colour blow up photos of Steve Birkinshaw, Helene Whitaker, Jim Mann and Jasmin Paris. They are the 4 previous winners of the modern day Dragon’s Back Race and are known as the ‘Dragon Slayers’ ... now they are joined by Marcus Scotney, winner of the 2017 men’s race.
